I created The First 500 as a space to sharpen my editorial eye and help other writers learn through example. Each post starts with the first 500 words of a story, followed by my own edited version and critique. Whether the writing comes from Wattpad, Project Gutenberg, or my own drafts, the goal is always the same: to see how the first few paragraphs set the stage for everything that follows.
